Manifesto Coffee, based in Perthshire, Scotland, have been working hard for months on a problem that many speciality coffee companies face: how to package their coffee in a sustainable way. After extensive research, the Manifesto Coffee team came up with the idea of packaging their coffee in cans, a form of material that is widely and easily recycled.
I spent some time chatting with Alex, a co-owner at Manifesto Coffee, about why packaging materials are so important to them and why they chose beverage cans as a packaging material. We also discussed the work they done to develop their recyclable can packaging.
Coffee packaging is not an easy issue to tackle. There are many issues to balance, from cost to sourcing packaging to maintaining the freshness of your coffee. I am excited to see businesses like Manifesto think through these issues and come up with actionable, environmentally-friendly solutions.
