Advent of Bloggers 2021
Published on under the Advent of Bloggers (Series) category.Toggle Memex mode

For the last week or two, I have been thinking whether there is a December blogging series I could take on, similar to how Advent of Code publishes a new coding challenge every day throughout Advent. I thought that I would just continue with my regular blogging until yesterday when I came up with an idea: write a blog post every day of Advent that talks about a particular blog I like. I am calling this my "advent of bloggers" series.
I rely on other bloggers and website owners talking about and sharing what blogs and articles they like to find new content. A common way I find blogs is through looking at blogrolls and also following links from blogs I already follow. But, these methods of sharing don't shed light on how amazing and interesting some blogs can be. I want to take some time to share blogs I follow that I like to read or look at.
From now up until December 24th, I hope to write a blog post every day about a blog that I find interesting. All of the links in this series will appear on my Advent of Bloggers category page so you can catch up on any issues you have missed or look back on previous editions. Without any further ado, let me get started by talking about warmedal.se, a blog you might have seen in my "Likes" a few times.
@warmedal.se
Björn Wärmedal is the owner of warmedal.se/bjorn/, a blog made with a custom-fit static site generator. The website is designed to be minimal, focusing on content and usability. There are only a few CSS styles on each page, all of which have a clear purpose. The minimal design makes content easy to read.
I have been reading Björn's blog for the last few months. What I love is that I cannot predict what the next post will be about. Björn has covered so many topics, from a proposed solution to corporate spam to small software. There is now a search bar to aid navigation, powered again by the same minimal and function-focused principles that embody the site.
If you're looking for some blog posts to check out, I would recommend:
- Damn Small Software
- The Solution to Corporate Spam
- Boaty McBoatface and the Royal Ship Vasa
- Challenge: Do Something For a Community Project
- Python Packaging Woes
You can read Björn's blog at warmedal.se/bjorn/.
Wrapping Up
That's all for this edition of Advent of Blogging. If you found this blog post interesting, do let me know! If you don't already, I encourage you to post something on your website where you share some websites that you enjoy. This helps web creators like me find new sites to browse and potentially subscribe to. Join me tomorrow where I'll chat about another blog I find interesting (although without the same preamble introducing the series!). Happy December 1st to all of those reading this post on the day that it is announced, or who happen to be reading this post on a December 1st in the future.
