Advent of Bloggers 2021: Day 11
Published on under the Advent of Bloggers (Series) category.Toggle Memex mode

I am writing a blog post every day from December 1st to December 24th, 2021, about a blogger whose writing or site I follow. My aim for this series is to help you discover new blogs and to help get the word out about content creators whose blogs I appreciate. You can read more about this series in the inaugural Day 1 post.

I found Sebastian's blog back when I was researching how I could integrate my Discord bot with my website. My goal was to create a feature that let me send specified Micropub requests to a server so I could post likes and other reactions via chat. Sebastiaan had already implemented this in IRC and had written a blog post about his experience building Micropub functionality into an IRC bot (archived). After finding that post and peeking around his blog, I subscribed.
Sebastiaan blogs in two languages: Dutch and English. You can find posts in either language by using the site navigation bar to go to the language in which you want to read content. Sebastiaan's homepage aggregates content from all across his site, providing a one-stop-shop for all of his content. The home page includes social interactions such as likes and blog posts.
I have only just started exploring Sebastiaan's blog but have found a number of IndieWeb posts that interest me. If you are interested in the IndieWeb, I'd recommend checking out Sebastiaan's blog and following along. He has written posts on topics from IndieAuth to Micropub to RSS (and how RSS is not dead!). Exploring further, you'll find pictures, drawings, and short-form posts.
If you're looking for a place to start with Sebastiaan's blog, I would recommend checking out these posts:
- Showing incorrect IndieAuth redirect_uri to the user
- RSS is not dead you know (nor is Atom) (archived)
- Introducing dark mode (archived)
- Adding Micropub to your IRC bot (archived)
At the bottom of Sebastiaan's blog posts, you'll find a simple comment section that is powered by Webmention. I love how this section is displayed: comments and other reactions are clearly distinguished. The section is easy to peruse and there's a form for easily submitting a webmention from your site to a page on his blog.
For all of those who are new to this series, welcome! For those who have already read a post or two, welcome back! At the bottom of this post, and all other posts in this series, you will find links to all of the posts in this series if you want to explore more blogs. I hope you find a blog that interests you! If you end up subscribing to a blog you find in this series, let me know by emailing me at readers@jamesg.blog. I shall see you tomorrow for the twelfth edition of this series.
