Advent of Bloggers 2021: Day 13
Published on under the Advent of Bloggers (Series) category.Toggle Memex mode

I am writing a blog post every day from December 1st to December 24th, 2021, about a blogger whose writing or site I follow. My aim for this series is to help you discover new blogs and to help get the word out about content creators whose blogs I appreciate. You can read more about this series in the inaugural Day 1 post.

I have been following Jeremy Cherfas' blog for months. At first, I discovered the blog because it was part of the IndieWeb. I love seeing how IndieWeb community members express themselves on their personal websites. Then I found that Jeremy posts reviews. He reviewed a book I had recently read, A Man Called Ove. I then discovered he has posted a number of book reviews and podcast reviews. I find Jeremy's reviews are easy to digest and comprehend.
For the last few months, I have been subscribed to Jeremy's blog, actively clicking through to his site when I see a new post. In the last few weeks, Jeremy has posted about topics such as moving to an M1 iMac, scheduling tasks on that new Mac, and a reflection on how Google stopped working on Google Reader a decade ago. I always learn something new when I visit Jeremy's blog. Most of Jeremy's posts are short. and focused on one topic. Jeremy often shares what he is learning as he goes, such as his journey learning to do various tasks in Python. I like these sorts of posts because they remind me that learning is a journey, not an end.
Every month, Jeremy posts a monthly report, summarising what he did in the last month. This series has a similar spirit to weeknotes, weekly blog posts about what you did in the last seven days, but is more high-level and concise. There are usually a few bullet points about what Jeremy did in the last month and some statistics about Jeremy's last month. Jeremy even logs how many hours he spends on his podcast and admin work.
Here are a few posts on Jeremy Cherfas' blog that I have enjoyed over the last few months:
If you're looking for more content, Jeremy posts regular updates to a "stream" that he posts on a subdomain. This steam, hosted using the Known platform, is a place to find checkins, social reactions to other posts on the web, and other short-form updates. I love seeing streams on personal websites. They are a way to keep up with someone without having to follow their social media page.
That's it for this blog post! I shall be back tomorrow for the fourteenth blog post.
