As I write, I am in a comfortable armchair in an Edinburgh cafe, looking out on a rainy street. It has been rainy all day. I have been writing a lot of blog posts this morning, and an idea popped in to my head that I haven't thought about in a while: I would like for there to be a cappuccino emoji.
At present, coffee is represented by a single coffee cup emoji ("hot beverage" ☕), but I would like to see a coffee emoji that contains milk. I am unsure about the appropriate visual representation of a cappuccino, as the contrast between a white or grey cup -- traditionally used in the "hot beverage" emoji -- would be poor. Perhaps a different colour of coffee cup would be in order. In any case, I wonder: what could be done to make a cappuccino emoji?
I ponder the criterion for submitting an emoji to the Unicode Consortium every few months but the process is arduous and time consuming. I do believe the cappuccino would make for a fine candidate for an emoji, given the ubiquity of coffee with milk and there being no emoji to represent this at the moment. The concatenation of the "hot beverage" and "milk" (🥛) emojis technically represents coffee with milk, but the same concept could be represented in a single emoji.
Should anyone be interested in helping me assess the viability of preparing an application for a cappuccino emoji, please do let me know! My email address is readers [at] jamesg.blog.
