Earlier today, I moved all of the bookmarks, likes, and replies from my website to my bookmarks website that uses the Known platform^1. I am thinking about re-building my blog with Eleventy (11ty), a popular JavaScript static site generator, too. I made a comment in the IndieWeb chat about my experience after encountering a few challenges (read: learning!), to which a few people responded. I am far into the the project, but I realised I don't have the mental headspace to take on the full migration right now.
A short conversation ensued around a message wherein I note my underestimating the extent of the task ahead. With permission, I am reposting the transcript of the short conversation verbatim ^2:
capjamesg: I underestimated the extent of this challenge  :D
<[campegg]>: 👆 LOL, that's me with any(every?)thing code-related
capjamesg: It's the last 20% that gets you haha.
<[snarfed]>: first 80%, second 80%
Snarfed's comment on the second 80% is so true. I got all my posts and most of my static pages working on 11ty. But, the last 20% of the work required to move my blog to a new platform -- setting up archive pages, setting up the right permalink structure, getting my coffee maps to render correctly -- is a mini-mountain of work.
