Colourful shirts

For at least the last year, I have opted to wear Hawaiian and otherwise colourful shirts. My wardrobe spans from plain light green shirts to floral shirts in a 70s style to Hawaiian shirts in a wide variety of colours. At Homebrew Website Club this evening, someone asked me to write about why I like to wear the shirts I wear. Around 20 minutes after the call, I am sitting here writing said post with a bit of excitement in the back of my mind; motivation has indeed struck. Thank you for the idea!
I have never been what one may consider traditionally fashionable. I do not follow trends with regard to clothing, nor could I articulate here a single trend that has emerged in clothing over the last few years. Indeed, my personal philosophy for clothes is to buy what makes me feel like myself. That tends to be more colourful, interesting clothing.
I feel joyful when I see someone wearing an interesting shirt. While I was in an airport earlier this year (perhaps the San Francisco International Airport, although I cannot fully recall), I saw someone wearing a shirt with a positive message. That message was what I really needed in the moment and I am now thinking about how many other people were positively affected by that message. How many people's days were made slightly better. This is indeed a tangent since I don't wear clothes with messages, but perhaps I should! Serendipitious positive messages are always welcome. I digress.
My style has been colourful clothing for the last few years. I feel more like myself in them. I wonder what people think when they see someone in a 70s shirt. Does it brighten their day? Does it make them think about fashion? Does it provide inspiration? Perhaps the answer to that is no, but the chance that someone may be intrigued by a clothing item is exciting. I don't want fashion to converge upon a few trends where everyone is wearing similar clothes. The bold, colourful, intriguing, strange, peculiar, trend-busting: all are welcome. I always feel a little bit better when I see someone wearing a unique shirt. Potentially repaying the favour is a delightful idea.
