Morning

Before work today, I spent some time in a park, looking out onto old buildings. I sat and watched the world go by. Women and men in formal wear walked by, presumably going to work. A boy in school clothes walked past. Others were in summer clothing. People took photos of the buildings.
I like the early morning, the time when the world around me hasn't quite woken up yet. Where you can go to places that may be busy later in the day and sit in relative peace. I have always enjoyed being up early in the morning, especially on sunny days. On holidays, I am up early, excited to seize the day and fit in as many things as I can. On mornings like today, being up early gave me a little bit of calm in my day. I appreciated the moment of peace. I felt joyful.
I had no coat or jumper with me and sat on a bench shaded in the tree. There was a bit of a breeze in the air, but none so intense as to make me wish I had brought more layers of clothing. I enjoy when I can sit outside and not worry about the weather; when it is so warm that you feel comfortable in summer clothing.
Earlier this month, a friend told me that summer had started. I wondered to what they were referring because I always thought summer "technically started" at the end of June. I then learned there are two starts to the summer: the meterological and astronomical summer, the latter starting at the beginning of June. I recall feeling joy when I learned this, not that the semantics matter here but I find joy in learning little details such as this one.
Technicalities and semantics aside, summer is definitely here. People are wearing sunglasses, short-sleeved shirts, sitting outside basking in the warm weather. There are few clouds in the sky today, although a slight haze. A beautiful haze. I love summer.
