I had an idea that I wanted to do a blog post with a title starting with "The one with the". That reminds me, I now know two shows that regularly use the same pattern at the beginning, and they are both 90s sitcoms: Monk ("Mr. Monk and the...") and Friends ("The one with the..."). Are there others? Anyway, I digress! For this blog post is about standing desks. I think.
After nine months of having a half-built standing desk on the floor of my living room, I finally figured out how to finish building it. I looked at the IKEA manual for the desk again and realized I had set up the desk for a wider top, which meant the desk top I owned did not fit. I caught onto this after buying a second desk top of the right size for the base and finding it doesn't fit. So I now have two desk tops and only one desk base. Never mind.
I have used my standing desk a few days this week. There is something invigorating about standing up more during the work day. I think I have the desk at an ergonomic height, so I feel mostly comfortable while using it. I found my feet getting tired yesterday in the midst of a series of meetings yesterday. I will need to figure out a good cadence between standing and sitting. For writing, I still find myself preferring to sit, although perhaps this may change over time as I adjust.
I will report back when I have had more time with my standing desk and share how things have been going with frequent use.
