I took the bus back to the Edinburgh City Centre from the airport today, after my flight from Berlin. The tram had just departed and I thought the bus would be quicker. I carried my suitcase onto the bus, lifted my suitcase onto the luggage rack, then sat down. A few moments later, two young women boarded. I would guess they were around my age. They sat down and started conversing in German. I gazed out the window and watched people walk past.
The bus ride starts without any particularly notable scenery in view. Roads, and more roads. As is common when you are leaving an airport. Within about ten minutes, we started to get into the outskirts of the City. I looked at one of the women, who was looking out the window and smiled a little bit. They had a glint in their eye, too. Shortly after, her friend looked out the other window and saw a building that invoked a similar reaction to that of her friend: a small smile. It was almost as if they were both in awe. The building was a large, palace-like museum. I, too, was in awe. Today was perhaps my second time seeing the building.
When I visit a new place, I often say to myself "wow", or something of that nature. Sometimes out loud, to mark the moment. I smille, excited to start exploring my destination. It was beautiful to see two other people smille and react in joy to their surroundings.
