Through the pandemic, I went for a walk on most days. I loved those walks. After I go for a leisurely walk, I feel refreshed. Last year, however, my walking routine was inconsistent. On an average day, I mainly walked to get from point A to point B. Walking with purpose is never the same as a leisurely walk; the goal is the destination, not embracing the journey. I want to get back into a consistent walking routine again, so I am going to walk every day in January.
Every day this month, I will go for a walk that lasts at least 20 minutes. These walks will be in addition to any other walking I do. I will track my progress on a calendar, which is now on my home page. For every day I go for a walk, I will add a green square to the calendar. If I miss a day, the square will remain grey.
After the challenge is up, I will move the calendar from my home page to this page. The calendar is a web component that you can embed onto your website. To learn how to add a similar calendar to your website, check out my webcalendar.js GitHub project.
As I write, I have already been on my first walk of the year. The journey was refreshing. There was a chill in the air. The kind of winter chill that makes you feel alive but does not make you too cold. The sun was shining. The day was beautiful. I am excited to go on more walks over the next month.
