A few weeks ago, a barista at my favourite coffee shop gave me a compliment on my longer hair. Their words brightened my morning; the culmination of months of my growing my hair was recognized (and appreciated!) by someone else. Indeed, a compliment you give could brighten someone's morning or even be remembered for longer. Kind words matter.
Over the last few days, I have been proactively giving people compliments on their personal websites. I get abundantly excited when I see someone's personal website. I enjoy clicking links and learning about the topics that interest other people. I cannot take for granted that someone put in the effort to make a website, for doing so is time consuming. Websites are a creative art; someone showing their creativity with others is special. If you are making a personal website, you are awesome.
That prompts me to offer you, my readers, a small challenge: give someone a compliment today.
Do you like someone's website? Send them a quick note to say you liked it! Do you like an essay a friend wrote? Tell them why! Did someone do something kind for you? Tell them how much you appreciate their kindness. These are some ideas, but the best compliments are the ones tailored to the person with whom you are speaking.
To the extent you can make someone smile and feel proud, do.
P.S. Please share your domain name with me if you have a website! I'd love to look at your website. I'm available at readers [at] jamesg [dot] blog.
