Little moments of joy

I like to take note of moments that made me smile or brought me joy. This helps take my mind off whatever is going on in the moment, particularly useful on the days when I am more anxious. A few moments have brought me joy lately that, in isolation, do not constitute a full blog post so much as a sentence or two. Thus, I thought I would make a list of the things that brought me joy and collate them into one post.
As part of this, I'm issuing you a challenge: take a note of a few moments that brought you joy lately. You don't have to share them with anyone; do it for your own joy.
Here are a few moments that made me smile recently:
- I saw someone whose hotspot was named "Vandelay Industries" on the train. If you are a Seinfeld fan, you are probably now shouting, enthusiastically, "Vandelay Industries" in the voice of George in your mind right now. And if you weren't, my painting that picture may encourage you to do so. (James smiles)
- It started snowing yesterday. I looked up to see the snow fall directly down from the sky. A dark sky, small flakes of white falling. Every flake was delicate; most, when falling to the ground, quickly melted. There are few remnants of the snow today, but there is the memory in my head of seeing the snow from an unusual angle: looking head-up to the sky. (Some snow did get in my eyes, despite my glasses.)
- A friend wrote a blog post about Lego that helped remind me of how much Lego meant to me as a kid. What are the things that brought you comfort when you were young?
- I saw someone reading my favourite book on the train. We spoke a bit about the novel.
- I briefly exchanged a smile with a stranger as we were both going in different directions.
- I was carrying 10 bottles of water (which were collectively heavy) and Lego in a paper bag, worried it might split at any moment. I couldn't help but smile at how I had nothing better to carry the water in.
