Annotating my website page structure
Published on under the IndieWeb category.
While I was trying to figure out how to link a manifest.json file to my feed reader, I found myself looking at the source code behind Jeremy Keith's website home page. The fact that you can see the source code behind how a page loads is an amazing feature behind the web. You can see the code that tells a browser how a web page loads. Sometimes the source code behind a site is almost or completely illegible but there are plenty of sites out there whose code you can peruse.

A one-liner to get root paths in my sitemap
Published on under the IndieWeb category.
It has been a few weeks since I last blogged. I have been busy learning, working, and travelling. Today I have a blog post to share with you, or at least I will by the time I finish hitting keys in sequence to produce this post.

Building an 'on this day' feature for my website
Published on under the IndieWeb category.
"on this day," in the context of the web, refers to a tool that lets you see what you have posted on a particular day over a previous time period, typically over years. I have been thinking about this idea since the IndieWebCamp Berlin event, after seeing David's personal website with a "this week" section. This section shows all of David's posts from a given week in the past.

New Orleans 2022
Published on under the Photos category.
Last week, I visited the US for the first time. I travelled to New Orleans. After two connecting flights from Scotland and almost a full day of travel, I arrived greeted by warmth, despite the late hour. I couldn't believe how warm the weather was. I took a few photos on the trip that I want to share here on my blog.

Announcing getsitemap, a Python library for sitemap URL retrieval
Published on under the Coding category.
I have worked on numerous projects that involve finding all of the URLs in the sitemaps associated with a website. For example, one of the first steps the IndieWeb Search crawler takes when it starts crawling a website is to find all of the URLs in all of the sitemaps. Separately, I have written scripts that validate the status codes of all the URLs in a sitemap.

Beyond Tellerrand 2022
Published on under the Events category.
I attended my first Beyond Tellerrand conference in Berlin last week. I'll not bury the lede and go right out and say that I definitely want to attend another Beyond Tellerrand. The event was such an excellent experience, featuring inspiring and thought-provoking talks as well as an excellent community with whom I chatted about everything from technology to data to anything else that came to mind.

Adding review support to Breakfast and Coffee
Published on under the IndieWeb category.
Breakfast and Coffee is a place to share information about breakfast and coffee shops you have visited, with a twist: where possible, contributions should come from personal websites rather than directly through the website editing interface. Breakfast and Coffee is a MediaWiki. This gives the site a lot of features like categories, a good page editor, and edit tracking out of the box. But, the site accepts Webmentions. When Breakfast and Coffee receives a webmention, it tries to create an entry on the wiki.
